Sick boy

Yesterday I went to town with some boys from Jordan's party. We went to Waterstones and Costa Coffee and then Luke made a comment about how we'd had a typical 'middle class student' day which I found pretty funny because I am neither middle class, nor a student (yet).

My birthday list consists of
1) Divine black heels with gold studs from Topshop
2) Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs by John Lydon
3) A NEW DIARY

I have watched a film a day for the past three days and each film has been fantastic.
The first was Closer, starring Jude Law. Nothing much happened but I loved watching it purely because it was a study of modern relationships and although parts of it were uncomfortable to watch, it didn't matter because the dark mood of the film needed the tense atmosphere. Natalie Portman is beautiful.

The second was Trainspotting. I've been wanting to see it for about a year now because countless people have been nagging me to read the book but the Scottish dialect in which it was written has put me off so far. Anyway, I thought it was brilliant. Ewan McGregor was fantastic and I liked how the film didn't try to glamourise heroin addiction - one of the pros of being British I guess - it wasn't "Hollywood addiction". In fact, it was so good that I am going to buy the book the next time I see it, regardless of how long it takes me to read.

Last but by no means least is Girl, Interrupted. This was my favourite film of the three, partly because it was set in a mental institute and really focused on the troubled girls and partly because Angelina Jolie gave a breathtaking performance as the sociopath Lisa. Her character was extreme, almost bipolar, and although she was obviously psychotic and incredibly troubled, I couldn't help but admire her confidence and the intensity of her emotions, from anger to despair. The only thing that I would have changed about the film is the ending because it did seem like a bit of a cop-out but I suppose as it was based on a true story it couldn't be changed. And besides: it was believable, it just wasn't as exciting as you expect the end of a film to be.
