One of the many things that I was lucky enough to experience was the official opening of an Italian restaurant, Mordimi (literally meaning "Bite Me"), and what an opening it was! We arrived at 7 on the dot in our frilly dresses to find nothing but a couple of press photographers lurking around schmoozing with the owners but by 8 the place started filling up.
Taking our seats on the piazza we enjoyed more free wine than we could handle and a beautiful buffet filled with crusty bread, fragrant risotto, creamy cheese and dark chocolate aplenty, also free of charge. We sipped our wine as a man in wonderful red trousers played the piano and the beautiful people milled around eating olives and flicking their hair around before we were treated to some AMAZING Spanish music (http://www.facebook.com/tunamedicina) by four lovely boys from Murcia. They're part of a huge band (around 25 people) from the exact area in Spain where I usually spend my summers! Their attire is strictly medieval with velvet coats and tights as a mark of respect for students of the university that they attend (it is the original uniform of days gone by).
After their set, everyone was happy, clapping and singing and taking pictures, the piazza was full. Despite the demands for autographs and pictures, the band gravitated towards us and sat with us for hours. Jaime or "Harry Potter" became my new best friend as we talked about everything from Guns N' Roses to which beaches are the best in Spain. We all talked and laughed well into the night, it was amazing and no one does restaurant openings better than Italy.
