Remember Me

Finally finished reading Remember Me by Melvyn Bragg and I did enjoy it despite the epic effort it took to finish. It was beautifully written but the book was over 500 pages long and the actual event that the story was building up to didn't happen until ten pages from the end and before that...nothing. It was also very emotionally spare in parts, as if the characters had no compassion and genuine feeling for each other. The couple didn't seem to bond or even talk at all before they got married and Natasha went from being very distant and not very bothered about Joseph to absolutely devastated when he got a mistress, but in the beginning of the book she'd already told him that she didn't find adultery a big deal. There were also too many characters without personalities which made it very difficult to keep track of what was going on.
