I have just read The Other Hand by Chris Cleave and despite it being almost 400 pages long, it only took me an evening to read, which I was pretty impressed with.
And it was simply beautiful. Little Bee, the main character was adorable and despite having seen things in her lifetime that people should never have to see, she told the story with the virginal innocence that only a tortured African girl could.
"You live in a world of machines and you dream of things with beating hearts. We dream of machines, because we see where beating hearts have left us."
The Independent described it as being "a powerful piece of art" and I must say I agree.
