My boyfriend & I went to see this film last night. Prior to watching it, I'd had no idea of what to expect as the trailer portrays it as a ballet film with a sinister twist, which, in retrospect, is pretty fucking accurate.
I absolutely loved the film but I did not enjoy watching it. Contradictory though that may be, those of who that have seen it will understand.
Although a work of art that is unquestionably genius, with the story unfolding beautifully as the plot thickens, the underlying themes of madness, paranoia and loneliness are hard to escape as we are forced to endure them through the main character's perspective, which is warped and uncertain.
It's the kind of film that you appreciate, that gives you something to think about but makes you leave the cinema feeling as though there is a cold rock in your stomach.
